I am starting this with a letter which was written by a Mother to her son from an old age home.

"My dear Son I hope you all are well and comfortable. But I am not feeling well now a day. Perhaps my life is in end time. I want to go home and want to die on my husband’s place in front of you all. You have kept me here for long days. I also agreed with your decision at that time, but I am feeling very alone here. My eyes always want to see you and my grand children. Hope you will permit me now. I am taking oath that I will not disturb anybody. Let me allow staying with all of you. Can you remember your childhood days? Everything is in front of my eyes. When you got feared, you used to come running to me and holding me with your arms and also said me not to quit you in any time. But you have forgotten everything as you are a big now and you have left me here alone. You don’t get fear now so may be my presence is not required. But to me you are still my little child. Don’t think that I am saying all these to take me at home. But really I want to share my last days with you all. Here all are well and take care of me but I am not well. My eyes are finding my loved ones. If your father is alive now perhaps he does not allow me to stay here. Previously you used to come once in a month but now it is once in a year. So please come and take me out from here. I want to stay with you all. "

This is a letter of a mother from an old age home to her son. In old age home, there are so many old people who are forced to stay there due to many reasons.

Some main reasons to stay there:

1. Some feel parents are burden- Some people think their parents a s a burden and forced them to go to any old age home. They don’t remember their parents’ contribution and sacrifices which they take to bring them up. When the people become old and when they cannot give any return to family, then they are treated as burden. But this should not happen. We should follow our moral duties and should always respect them. 
2. Some have no other options: It is also an important cause. We help our children to get higher studies and after completion they go outside even abroad also. Then the old parents become helpless. They willingly then want to go to any old age home to get shelter and care in lieu of some fees. They expect some good treatment and other services there. For this some people go to old age home.
3. Those who have no one to take care of them: Some persons who have no child and relatives, they also willingly go to any old age home. They also preferred it to get least care of them and some old age homes prove this.
4. Another reason is that, in a nuclear family husband and wife both are concerned about their career and monetary gains. These children have no time to spend some moments with their parents. Here old age home acts as a home to those deserted parents.
5. At the end of life some senior citizens required some more care which may be impossible to get in family. Then they willingly want to move into any old age home.

Now what is old age home?

Some time it is called as old people’s home. It may be a residential housing where seniors can live with some facilities. Facilities mean food, gathering, and recreational activities, health care. There are some volunteers or paid and also trained employees to take care of them. Here people can live with a great peace and they can meet many people like them. So they can share their views also. Those who are able can do some activities.

Types of old age home:

There are two types of old age homes in India. One is totally free. Some volunteer organizations maintain these and care for the old people, who have none to care for them and also they have no money. These types of homes give shelter, food, clothes and also medical care with some expert and trained employees.

The second type is paid type where homes take care of them providing some fees. Such homes are very popular now in India and in abroad also. Naturally as there are some fees collected, so the facilities are more here than a free home. Some people do and maintain these types of homes professionally.
