October 4 - A Few Thoughts On World Animal Welfare Day

October 4 is ‘World animal welfare day’. Men have become so selfish that for their benefits they kill and experiment poor beings on this earth. It results not only in their disappearance from earth forever but gave warning signals to human existence too. This day was celebrated for the first time in Florence of Italy in the year 1931. It aims at welfare of animals, along with their health, aid and safety measures. So, in this particular occasion when we have just reminded ourselves that a day is dedicated for the welfare of animals let us share a few thoughts too.

Please don’t put them in cages

Among birds, parrot is the most hunted one. Their talent to imitate human voices and easy to tame – for these two factors, men put these birds in cages for selfishness. As we provide artificial environment for them to live, it acts as life threatening to this poor beings. Same is the case of white owl. Poor owls are hunted believing in superstitions and now they have been listed under endangered species. According to Indian rules, it’s a punishable crime to put wild birds in cages. Parrots and owls are also included in this list.

For skin and tusk

Elephants love to live in forest as herd. But men bring them to residential area for temple celebrations and other entertainment purposes. Elephants often become violent when they are put in an environment where it’s not suitable for them to live. Poor elephants are also hunted for tusk and teeth. Surprisingly elephants have been included in the list of threatened species in the year 1986. Same is the case of tiger skin. Both are very expensive. As per 2002 census, 3642 was the total count of tigers in India. In 2006, it reduced to 1411. But as per 2010 census, its number has slightly increased to 1706.

Same is the case of snakes

Everyone is scared of snakes. But among Indian snakes of 262 types, only 57 are venomous. Of them 20 belong to sea. So for the threatening 37 snake species, why are we killing snakes as whole? Humans are responsible for it too. When he destroyed trees and bushes to build concrete buildings, where should these poor animals go?

No more experiments

According to Indian laws and regulations, wild animals cannot be used in labs for experiments. Animals cannot be used for exhibition and entertainment purposes. Wild animals cannot be hunted for meat. Animals for butchering should not be carried long distances or in inconvenient ways.
