ABOUT NAINITAL 

Nainital is commonly known as the Lake City or the Lake District of Uttarakhand. It is named after the goddess Naina Devi, who is an idol of the locals. It has a lake that shaped like a pear that surrounded by hills and mountains. Rich with history and culture, this district visited by many tourists because of its natural beauty and many tourist attractions, which will be discussed later in this article. Situated at the foot of the outer Himalayas, this site is perfect for adventure-seeking persons and a wonder that is worth seeing and visiting.

HISTORY OF NAINITAL

The lake at Nainital discovered by G.W. Traill, a commissioner of Kumaon and Garhwal, and P. Barron, a sugar trader from Shahjahanpur. G. Traill was the first European who had seen the lake, and attracted with its beauty. P. Barron, on the other hand, saw the lake and thought of constructing a hill resort on the site. He built a house called Pilgrim Lodge, which still exists up to today. During the late 19th century, European schools built in the district. Today, Nainital is a tourist spot in India that visited by many foreigners and locals.

NAINITAL AS A TOURIST PLACE

Here, are the main attractions in the district:

• Naina Devi Temple

Named after the goddess Naina Devi, which Nainital named after, the temple is visited by locals for spiritual purposes, especially during religious festivals.

• Naini Lake

This lake is the biggest attraction in the district. The lake was the site that attracted the foreigners who discovered Nainital. The lake surrounded with hills and mountains, and perfect for watching the sunrise and sunset.

• Aerial Ropeway

The whole town below the ropeway, as well as the beautiful site of the Himalayas, can be seen from this attraction.

HOW TO REACH THERE

Nainital can be reached by road, railroad, and air. You can travel by air in an airplane and land in Pant Nagar Civil Aerodrome 'in Uttarakhand', and then take a bus or cab going to Nainital. Another alternative would be to travel by road through the National Highway No. 87. Roadway buses travel from key cities to Nainital. When taking the train, Ranikhet Express usually take 19 hours and 30 minutes to reach Kathgodam from Old Delhi. Kathgodam is the last train stop of the North East Railways. Tourists can take a cab from Kathgodam or Haldwani going to Nainital.

After learning about the wonders of Nainital, it can be said that this place is rich in culture and history. It embarks on the adventurous side of every one especially because of the activities that are present in the site. It brings out the love for nature within us, with the site of the mountains, and lake. Although the place is yet to be discovered by many people, especially foreigners, coming to a peaceful and environmental site like this would guarantee that the long travel exchanged with the experience that will make a mark in our hearts and minds.
