He walked till the end of the road and took a left turn. There was a small house by the edge of the lake. He was 8 years old and this lonely house had always fascinated him. For the last two years he had been looking at this house and he still didn’t know who or what lived there. Everybody in his village told him to avoid going there no matter what. But he was a child and as a child he was curious and not the least bit scared.
One of his friends, a girl of 7 told him that a ghost lived there. A year ago he had sneaked a peek at the house one early morning and he could see movement. But he couldn’t see the person behind that movement. The house was strange and eerie and emitted a glow of creepiness which made everyone stay away from it.
It was tattered and the roof was in danger of collapsing every time a fierce wind blew. His parents told him the boogeyman lived there. He didn’t know what boogeyman was and didn’t care for it. For two years he had controlled himself from going there but on that fateful day he couldn’t do it anymore. He had to know the mystery behind the house. Why anyone would want to live there baffled him.
So that day he stood. He walked a few tentative steps forward and all of a sudden his heart began to beat faster. Now he began questioning his decision to come here in the first place. But by then it was too late. Something screamed from inside the house. It was a soft scream like the scream which would escape someone’s mouth if they had fallen down the stairs. He rushed inside. His heart was on overdrive now. His eyes were wide and his legs were shivering. When he entered the house he saw an old woman lying on the floor. She looked up at him and her eyes begged for help. He walked towards her and held her hand. He helped her up. He didn’t know why everyone was scared of this tiny lady who clearly looked like she was a harmless old woman. And she ate him.
