Murali Vijay Scores Century Against England

Murali Vijay scored a ton on the first day of the first Test between India and England at Played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Vijay came to open the innings along with Shikhar Dhawan and remained not out until the very end of the day.

He scored 122 runs off 294 balls. In this innings that lasted the entire day, he hit 20 fours and a solitary six. Captain MS Dhoni was giving company to Vijay when it was the close of play. Dhoni scored his half-century this time and was not out exactly on 50 runs off 64 balls.

It was a mixed day for the Indian batsmen as on one hand it was a bright sight in the form of Murali Vijay with his ton, and on the other, there were failures as Dhawan and the ever dependable Virat Kohli failed to score. Shikhar Dhawan scored 12 runs, while Kohli could score just one run from eight balls.

Murali Vijay was looking aggressive in the opening session of the game. He scored 50 runs off just 68 balls before lunch. This included as many as 11 fours. This can give you an idea of the momentum in which he was playing.

By the lunch, India had lost Dhawan and the score line read 106/1 in 30 overs. In the next 14 overs, India lost two more wickets and England were on the offensive. Vijay slowed down his innings as it was the time to resurrect the Indian innings. Vijay got good company in the form of Ajinkya Rahane.

The two put 71 runs for the fourth wicket. Rahane scored 32 runs and was promising for a bigger score when he lost his wicket. This was the time when Dhoni walked in and both shared an unbroken stand of 81 runs.

Towards the fag end of the day, Vijay finally completed his slow march to the three-figure mark in 214 balls. From his half-century to century, Vijay hit only seven fours. Because this was the time when India needed him to stay there and he knew his responsibilities pretty correctly.

It now remains to be seen how much he can add to his overnight score of 122 runs. The good thing is that Dhoni will be at the other end to support him.
