She was a cute little girl who was pampered by her mother a lot.  Father and sister, though they were fond of her, were sceptical about her performance.  She was also very playful and innovative that she missed out on the academic performance quite often. Her neighbours were friendly with her because of her amicable nature.  They also liked her humorous speech and kind behaviour. 

She was so fond of children she would be in any of her neighbour’s house where there was a baby.  She was more attracted by girl babies than boy babies.  She never outgrew any of her childlike behaviour, though the world demanded it.  She was still very innocent and easy going when she was to get married.

So much she believed in the people around her, she did not even give a second thought to their choice of a husband for her.  Parents-in-law were good but not best.  Unless they were not troubled by their sons and daughter-in-laws, they were happy.  As you know, this girl (now a woman) started eagerly waiting for a cute little angel to appear in her life.  She had a good amount of practice in child rearing from the time she herself was a child.  So, she was waiting to put all her knowledge about children to bring up her own child in a very good manner.  She waited and waited.  

God was so busy he did not hear her prayers.  When she looked back, already 10 years were gone.  She did not have the money to spend on high end treatment to welcome a child into the family.  Nevertheless, she tried shelling out money.

Then, it was a day in the month of March.   Her mother-in-law called her.  Without knowing this is going to make a big impact in her life she visited her.  There she saw this cute boy baby, dark and sweet wriggling in a bed spread.  He was three months old.  Though she was fond of girl children only, she just fell in love with this cute angel.  He stole both her husband’s as well as her heart.

He started growing like a prince in their house.  Whatever they did for him, it was not enough for them.  They wanted to give him all their love and care.  He too brought such happiness into her life.  Her face became bright and colourful after many years of gloom.  She waited for him to walk and talk and especially call her amma.

But................ that day never came!  He did not cross the normal milestones of a baby like, sitting, rolling on tummy, crawling, walking etc.  Everything was delayed.  In fact, he never crawled.  He moved in sitting position.  He did not utter any word correctly.  He sometimes echoed certain words like amma, papa, pavam etc.  Suddenly, he stopped even those words and became totally speechless.  He only made some strange sounds.  When the doctor identified his condition with “Autism” the first thing she did was look up the dictionary.  She did not even know the meaning of the word.  This one word shattered her whole life.  Not only hers but that of the family.  Yet she felt happy that she could give life and care to a child who really needs it.  She started living her life for her son, hoping him to call her AMMA one day...................!
