It is not only about Samsung or Apple or Sony for the Indian consumers when it comes to mobile handsets. Smartphones, tablets and phablets are not only the domain of foreign manufacturers. Home grown companies are also making it big in the world of handheld devices.

We are talking about Karbonn and Lava brining in budget phones for the Indian market very soon. The phones will be priced in the mid range and so will be affordable for the middle class Indian families as well. The idea behind having low-cost phones is to increase the horizons of the market as well as bring in more consumers under their wings.

There are specific Smartphones that these companies will be launching in the Indian market. As far as Karboon is concerned, their handsets will cost starting from Rs. 6,000 up to Rs. 12,000. As far as the Lava devices are concerned, their initial price tag is also around Rs. 6,000, though, it is expected that the price will start from Rs. 6,500.

There will be four devices from the house of Karbonn, which will be launched either in the month of May or in early June. These devices will run on the Windows Phone platform. Recently, Karbonn had launched their popular phone in the Titanium series – the Titanium X with 13MP camera and quad-core CPU.

Even the Lava phones will be Windows Phone devices. So, it will be a tough fight in the mid-range segment between these two big domestic players. Both companies are offering devices at almost the same price tag and the same operating platform. So, that should be interesting to see, who comes up with the upper hand in a bid to capture more market.

Lava is targeting a market share of around 10 per cent. The phones will be launched towards the middle of the year. So, Lava is targeting this market share for the second quarter of the 2014-15 financial year.

Both companies have already established themselves in the mobile world by launching various Smartphones in the market overtime. The introduction of their phones in the Indian market will also spell competition for the MNCs that are doing brisk business here. No doubt, they will have to come up with competitive devices and price tags.
