M.Jayachandran - The Melody King Of Present Times

Indian music has lost its melody in the past one decade or so and Malayalam has now stepped into the same shoes. Earlier Indian classical instruments were used by Malayalam music composers – an exception to Indian film music of present times. But now it is not the case now and new voices have also been experimented nowadays. Now it’s not needed to possess melodious voice of Yesudas or Chitra to sing songs for Malayalam cinema – a down fall of Malayalam music. But this music director is the exception of all those music directors and stands among the top who give preference to good voice and melody more than anything else. When an album of M.Jayachandran gets released, with closed eyes anyone can easily say that it will be pleasing music soothing our inner soul.

It has been about 18 years since M.Jayachandran has been associated with Malayalam film industry. But it took a lot of years and sweat to place him in the top list of present times. If you are a true lover of melodies even at present times, no doubt, M.Jayachandran creates the magic that appeals your ears most. His rise started during early 2000’s with a few movies like Kanmashi and Valkannadi. Manikkuyile of Vaalkannadi was well noted and following it, MohanLal’s Baalettan was released the next year. Though the melodious song, ‘Innale’ was the top song of the year, it was the classical compositions of Gauri Shankaram that gave him the first state awards for best music composition. After that he didn’t look back and went on creating melodious music for a string of movies like Perumazhakalam, Nammal thammil, Pranayam, Robinhood, Karayilekku oru kadal dooram, Rathinirbedam,  Sathyam, Swapna Sanchari, Nottam, Banaras, Vellinakshathram, Trivandrum lodge, Akale and Mampazhakalam. He was most successfully used by director Kamal for the movies Celluloid, Perumaghakalam and Ghaddamma (background score) and his rain songs have always been popular. Junile of Nammal Thammil and all rain songs of Perumazhakalam (literal meaning - Heavy rainy season) have become huge hits that time.

His romantic songs were huge hits and when preference was given to melody and good singing voice, songs like Junile (Nammal Thammil), Kallai kadavathu and En jeevanil (Perumazha kalam), Priyanu maathram (Robinhood), Nilave (Chattakari), Kaatil ee kaatil and Mazhathulli (Pranayam) became roaring hits. In the era of loud voice and jaaz, M.Jayachandran is a music composer who still believes and proved that melodies still exist in music lovers’ heart and in coming years, we can expect a lot of surprise packages for sure.
