Malar - The True Symbol Of Nostalgic Lost Love Of Malayalam Cinema

For anyone who has watched the most recent blockbuster of Malayalam cinema - PREMAM, it’s not easy to forget the romantic and charming character ‘Malar’ – The Tamil lecturer played by newcomer Sai Pallavi. Though the lead role is played by the well-established actor Nivin Pauly and Malar is only one among the three love interests of Nivin during the various phases of his life, it was Malar who stole audience’ hearts most. Truly she is the soul of the movie. Malar was even compared to Clara of Malayalam classic – Thoovanathumbikal.

 

The Tamil speaking character ‘Malar’ gave a huge impact on romantic moviegoers and no doubt, Malar became the symbol of romance among youth within a short interval of time. The character also played a significant role in making the movie ‘Premam’ an all-time blockbuster. Sai Pallavi – an established dancer and a doctor by profession debut film industry through this movie and the rest two heroines - Madonna Sebastian and Anupama Parameshwaran are also newcomers.

 

Why is Malar so significant? Despite she appears in the middle of the movie for a short interval of time, and leaves the audience without any word like a mystery, her presence in the movie has always been noticed, particularly the breathtaking climax. Through her charming looks and smiles, she conquered audience’ hearts easily and her pimpled face became quite craze among youth. Romantic stories and characters appear once in a blue moon in Malayalam film industry, as action and family drama are given much preference. So the romantic movie Premam stays as an exception for all! No doubt, Malar is the most romantic character of Malayalam cinema in the past one decade or so!!!

 

Malar played the role of teacher of George David, character portrayed by Nivin. Though they had age difference and Malar appeared in the role of his teacher, nothing could stop both from building a bond and relationship, though both never reveal throughout the film. The romance between teacher and student is so beautifully picturized and audience never feel uncomfortable while reels are rolling. The movie added all essences and flavours of an untold love to its perfection and that’s the magic of this movie. That makes Malar the truly the symbol of lost love and it’s truly dedicated to all those romantic hearts who carry ‘a lost Malar’ in their souls and re-discover it once again. Many fans say – Pallavi should not appear in movies anymore and they want to cherish her memories as Malar forever. That’s the magic created by this youngster through a single movie.
