When we hear the famous bhajan ‘Satyam Sivam Sundaram’ pictured on Zeenat Aman, sung by Lata Mangeshkar it’s something like an eternal feeling. Same is the case of ‘Bhor bhaye panghat ki’ of the same movie. The music of those songs were given by Laxmikanth-Pyarelal duo who has done a lot of experiments with Lata Mangeshkar’s voice.  Through this article I would like to remember a few more hits of this amazing combination who has given remarkable contributions to the world of music.

Raj kapoor’s directorial Satyam Sivam Sundaram was released during late 70’s in 1979, a film with controversies. Long before that, their association has begun with. Their association begun with songs of Parasmany in 1963, the first musical hit movie of Laxmikanth Pyarelal. The song was ‘Hastha hua noorani chehra’. After that we have witnessed a lot of hit movies in which Lata mangeshkar’s voice was used for leading lady’s song picturization. When Saira Banu sang and danced on Laxmi-Pyare songs in Shagird, we saw one among the finest works of these music composers. Each song carried away a separate mood, whether it’s bhajan Kaanha or teasing number ‘Dil vil pyra vyar’. Same is the case of solo number ‘Udke pawan ki’ and duet, Woh hai zara.

If it is the case of dance numbers, slow number – Oh babul pyare of Johny mera naam, for which Lata won Filmfare and Dafliwale of sargam, where Jayaprada dances to the tunes of Rishi Kapoor come to my first. Same is the case of Jhoot bole Kauwa katte of Bobby pictured on Dimple Kapadia. Though 1980’s have witnessed numerous dance numbers of this hit pair, music was comparatively weak than 60’s and 70’s. Yet a few slow songs like ‘Yeh pehle pyar ki’ of Badalthe rishte and ‘Sheesha ho ya dil’ of Aasha pictured on Reena Roy can be chosen the best.

A few songs pictured on Hema Malini that I remember right now include songs of Abhinetri like Sarigama, Sajna and Uy khata and Oh babul pyara of Johny mere naam. I would also like to list a few more memorable songs of this combination. Mein tere ishq mein marna jaun of Loafer pictured on Dharmendra and Mumtaz, Suno sajna pappi hai nayan of Aaye din Bahaar ki pictured on Asha Parekh, Yeh dil of Izzat pictured on Dharmendra and Tanuja, all block buster songs of Ek duje ke liya and Chalo sajna jahan tak of Mere humdum mere dost pictured on Sharmila Tagore and Dharmendra.
