Once Lata Mangeshkar has told that among all composers Madan Mohan’s tunes are difficult to learn and sing. It’s true too! That’s the reason why people still remember Nayana Barse and Lag jaa gale as the best romantic numbers sung by Lata Mangeshkar till now. Obviously all the best songs of Madan Mohan had seen sung by one and only Lataji. It can be said that during 60’s, Madan Mohan was the composer who well exploited Lataji’s voice and for the same reason, he is her most favourite composer too. She was given songs strictly made on Indian ragas and that’s the reason why still now, they remain immortal.

One more striking similarity I have noticed is that most of those musical films either belonged to Sadhana or Priya Rajavansh. For instance, Mere Saaya and Woh Kaun thi belong to Sadhana while Heer Ranja, Hasthe zakhm, Hindusthan ki kasam, Sahib bahudur and Haqueeqat exclusively belong to Priya. It can be said that all those songs were given Lata Mangeshkar, which she has rendered her best. Nayanom mein Badra chaaye and Tu jahaan jahaa chalega of Mere Saaya (pictured on Sadhana), Aaj socha to aasu bhar aaye and Betaab dil ki tamanna of Hasthe Zakham, Zara si aahat hoti hai of Haqueeqat, Mile na tum to of Heer Ranja (pictured on Priya Rajvansh), Aap ki nazarom ne samcha of Anpat (pictured on Mala Sinha), Do pal ka and Tere liye of Veer zaara (pictured on Shah Rukh Khan and Priety Zinta), Dil doondtha phir wohi of Mausam (pictured on Sharmila Tagore and Sanjeev Kumar), Woh bhooli daasthan of Sanjog and Lag jaa gale and Nayana barse of mysterious thriller pictured on Manoj Kumar and Sadhana Shivdasani are those best songs of this combination for which we can never find substitutes. They are simply the greatest of Madan Mohan combination.

It’s not specified that he has not given opportunities for other singers to sing. Yet it’s to be noted that most of those movies are woman oriented and that may be the reason why he needed a female play back voice. Obviously Lataji became his first choice. When Madan Mohan left this world so suddenly in 1975, many of his tunes were unreleased. When Yash raj films used those tunes in 2004 for Veer Zaara, Lata Mangeshkar’s voice was used to record all its leading tunes and Lataji paid her tribute to this music maestro by rendering her voice.
