Leh Travel Guide - Enjoy The Land Of Snow

 

Leh is one of the important cities of Jammu And Kashmir State and is the capital of the second largest district of India, Ladakh. This city is located at an altitude of 3524 meters above mean sea level. The Leh to Manali Highway and the road from Leh to Srinagar are the main gateways to enter into the city. Leh is connected with Srinagar through NH 1D.

 

The tourists and honeymoon couples come to this place for spending their vacation time. The snow clad blue mountains and the exotic valleys are breathtaking and they add beauty to the atmosphere. The peaks at a distance offer cool and enchanting views to your eyes. The traders of olden days that go to Tibet and China coming from Indus Valley region pass through Leh and so it had served as an important trade route for centuries.

 

The fort on the Namgyal Peak has once been the royal residence of the royal family lived here and now it is in ruined state. A number of monasteries could be seen here and many of them are worth visiting. Sengge Namgyal built the Leh Palace and it has nine stories. The royal family stayed at the upper floors while the lower ones were used for storing things and as horse stables. However the palace was abandoned in the middle of the nineteenth century.

 

Leh Trekking Trails, War Museum, Chamba Temple, Gurdwara Pathar Sahib, Jo Khang Gompa, Victory Tower and Stok Palace are some of the places that you must not visit during your stay in Leh. Though it is icy cold in winter, the local tourists from other parts of India love to visit this region in that time when there is snowfall. The foreigners come here during summer season when the climate is pleasant. So the tourist activities are seen all round the year in Leh. The climate touches minus 14 degree Celsius in winter and the mercury level reaches to 25 degree Celsius in summer months. But since this is a cold desert region, it gets very little rainfall.

 

To reach Leh by road you have to go to Srinagar and through Manali Highway. Going through Manali highway will be tedious because of the rough and rugged terrain full of high passes and plateaus. You can alternatively reach Leh through air and the airport named Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport is located at a high altitude which is the highest airport in India. Many domestic carriers operate regular flight to Leh from Delhi.

 

Since there is inflow of tourists round the year, there are many hotels in Leh to serve the needs of the tourists. These are located near the popular tourist spots and trekking areas. The quiet and serene atmosphere of the region unhindered by the pollution of the city life will guarantee you a pleasant and peaceful stay in Leh hotels.
