As everyone knows Chennai is one of the well known metropolitan cities in India. It is the capital of the state ‘Tamilnadu’.  Unlike other cities, Chennai has many faces because it has many languages and many cultures. Since it has more IT (Information Technology), ITES ( information Technology Enabled Services) and other multinational companies, it attracts the people from all the places of Tamilnadu. Not only Tamilnadu, there are also people from other states of our country as well.

Chennai is the city with sophisticated infrastructure facilities. It has its own harbor (port), an international airport with all the modern facilities and two railway terminals  (one at Egmore and the other at Tambaram). It has numerous buses (both city and mofussil).  To reduce heavy traffic, number of flyovers , subways and underground bridges were constructed. Most of  the projects are in progress which will be completed by end of this year. It has a vast integrated bus stand at Koyambedu which is known as CMBT (Chennai Mofussil  Bus Terminus). Besides, Buses, It has sub urban trains which are electric trains in few dedicated routes like beach – Tambaram, Beach – Chengalpet, Beach – Velachery etc. Now, Metro rail project is in progress which is a much costly project. All the phases of this project are expected to be completed by the end of the year 2016. It takes more than 4 years since it consist of several flyovers and undergrounds (tunnels). Underground stations and underground train journey are new to Chennai. Everyone is expecting to experience it with more interest.

Chennai has its own glorious history. To commemorate its history, 22 August of every year is celebrated as Madras Day (Chennai Day). Several events and competitions are being conducted on this day by both government and non government organizations (NGOs). Chennai is well known for some dishes. Some of the items are ‘Kal Dosai’ which is Thick form of Dosa and Brinjji which is similar to Vegetable Briyani where normal rice is used instead of basmati rice.

There are many tourist destinations in Chennai. Some of them are Marina Beach, Arignar Anna Memorial, M.G. Ramachandran memorial, Vandalur Zoo, Government Museum at Egmore, Fort St. George, Vivekananda House, Kabalesswarar Temple at Mylapore,  Santhome Church,  Besant Nagar beach etc.
