Kishore Kumar And Rajesh Khanna Complimented One Another

A train scene and romantic song picturization of 1969 Bollywood movie Aradhana – The song changed the fate of one struggling singer of Bollywood and a less-known actor of Bollywood as well. When Sharmila Tagore smiled from a train compartment to Rajesh Khanna and his friend Sujith Kumar, who drove the jeep, Bollywood history was rewritten.

The song was ‘Mere Sapnom ki rani kab aayega tu’ and the no one even imagined that such a teasing and fast number is going to conquer millions of hearts. ‘Mere sapnom ki rani’ and ‘Roop tera mastana’ – of Aradhana, both rumoured to be composed by the son of legendary music director S. D. Burman still rule millions of hearts. Rafi was the original choice of both these songs by S.D. But when he became sick and the work was completed by his son, both these songs went to R. D’s favourite singer. ‘Kora kagaz’ - the beautiful duet sung by Kishoreda also belong to this movie.

Since then R.D-Rajesh Khanna-Kishore Kumar combination has fully conquered music lovers in the 1970s. It’s true they completely dominated the era of 1970s and the combination of this amazing trio can be compared to Shankar Jaikishen-Shammi Kapoor-Mohd Rafi combination of 1960s. Yes both these trios have completely dominated the scene. R. D. Burman experimented the voice of Kishore Kumar in different moods for many songs of Rajesh khanna like Katti Patang, Amar Prem, Apna Desh, Agar tumna hote, Phir wohi raat, Mere Jeevan Saathi, Khudrat, Aap Ki Kasam, Ajnabee, Namak Haraam, Mere mehboob and many more.

Though fast and funny numbers or slow paced philosophic numbers, Kishore Kumar – Rajesh Khanna combination have become chartbuster hits and many of their songs hit the top slot of the popular countdown show on radio – Binaca Geet mala. Though Kishoreda is known for his fun loving songs, some of the memorable songs in the philosophical touch were sung for Rajesh Khanna. Chingari koi of Amar Prem, Zindagi ka safar of Safar, Yeh jo mohabbat hai of Katti patang and Zindagi ke safar of Aap ki kasam are the best instances of songs with sad mood.
