Kavya Madhavan – Perhaps the best actress of the past Jupiter year of Malayalam movies. She came to cinema as heroine at the right time – the time when Manju Varyar was to exit from industry. Though she has acted a few Malayalam movies as child actress, as heroine, her first movie was ‘Chandranudikkunna Dikkil’ of Lal Jose, pairing with Dileep. This movie was released in 1999 when she was just 14. It was just 1 year before the exit of Manju from silver screen and very soon, people began to accept Kavya as ‘neighbourhood girl’.

She was at the peak of her career when she got married to Nischal Chandra in 2009, February 5. Malayalam film industry was like an open lonely stage without actors when she left the site. The marriage didn’t last too long and they got separated within one year. It took a little time for her to get out of the shock and bad experiences she faced in her married life in Kuwait, far away from her family and film industry. When she became active in the movies, it was like her re-birth and we saw her arising as a phoenix through her powerful performance in ‘Khadamma’. For this movie, both the actress and the director Kamal won many awards including best movie, direction and best actress. It’s for the second time she won best actress award of Kerala. Surprisingly, the first movie also belongs to Director Kamal. In 2004, for the movie Perumazhakalam, both Kamal and Kavya won state awards for best movie and best actress respectively. When the team united again, it became another history again. Let me add, she entered the film industry as child actress for the same director’s movies – Azhakiya Ravanan and Kaikudanna Nilavu.

In the past 3 years we have seen some fine performances of Kavya Madhavan. Khaddama, Pappi Appacha, Christian Brothers, China Town, Venicile Vyapari, Vellari pravinte Changathi, Bhaktha Janangalude shreddakku, Bavuttiyude namathil and lokpal. Hoping a lot of surprises is still waiting for us. She entered the industry when she was just 10 or 11. Within the past 18 years, we have seen her growing as an actress from a kid to powerful women. She has acted with all most all leading actors of Mollywood. Yet she is most popular with Dileep. All the best for her.
