India celebrates its Independence day on 15th August and Republic day on 26th January. Of total Indian population Indo-Aryans make 72%, Dravidians make 25% and others 3%. 81% of people in India are Hindus while 13% follow Islam and 2% follow Christianity and 2% follow Sikhism.

The important industries are agriculture, textiles, chemicals, steel, cement, mining, machinery and software. More than 50 million people use telephone lines and more than 200 million people use cellular phones. There are more than 60 million internet users in India as of 2005. Total length of railway lines is 63, 221 km and total length of highways is 3, 383, 344 km. According to the year 2007 there are 346 airports in India and the seaports and harbors are located at Chennai, Vishakapatnam, Haldia, Kandla, Kolkata, Cochin, Mumbai and New Mangalore.

 

There is only one standard time in India which is 5.5 hours ahead of GMT. This is 10.5 hours ahead of American Eastern Standard time and 4.5 hours behind Australian Eastern Standard time.
