Indian Weather Affects Start Of Third Test

India and Australia were supposed to start their third Test on Thursday – March 14. However, the Indian weather played spoilsport and the match could not start on the scheduled time. Forget about the start of the match, in fact, the entire day’s play had to be called off. The reason was the rains in Mohali.

The two teams were scheduled to play the third Test at the Punjab Cricket Association in Mohali. However, both India and Australia had no option but to enjoy the rains as the entire day was literally washed off. When it looked the rains had stopped and play might begin in an hour or so, again the rain came down and washed the hopes off.

The Indian weather is indeed a funny one. When there is drought like situation in many parts of Maharashtra, there are rains in Punjab. And interestingly the rain is coming in the month of March when in most parts of India, it is the beginning of summer. But that is really not surprising as there have been February rains in the past too that have washed off matches.

An entire day’s play not being possible means that as many as 90 overs have been lost. This also means that India has one day less to force a win against Australia. It would not be wrong to say that the rain has helped Australia avoid three straight losses against India. It will be difficult for India to win a game in four days, though they have done it earlier.

The Mohali pitch is known to support the spinners more than the pace bowlers. So, it will be interesting to watch how the spinners perform once play begins. India has a good and effective arsenal of spinners in the form of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Harbhajan Singh has been asked sit out of this match and in comes Pragyan Ojha.

There are again hopes that these spinners will waive the magic of their spin and help India to another win against Australia. But the visitors will be equally ready to face the Indian bowling though they have been exposed to spin in the earlier matches.
