Indian Health Services Need A Boost

We should take care of our own societies
I am proud to say that India with her population of 1.3 billion is back on track and ready to become world leader. The world is looking at our history of democracy, a great variety of diversity and tolerance as the future of this world for a general agreement of peace. All said and done but we should look at the increasing difference in our own rural and urban societies. We are proud to be the mind behind developing the Silicon Valley of America but at the same time we should give a glance to the development, research and innovations reports of our own country which do not seem to be much encouraging.

For example the number of Indian doctors in America account for almost 5%, or if you count all the overseas doctors in America the percentage of Indian doctors is almost 20%. This is also true for different countries in the world those are dependent on Indian health workers. But if we look at our own health services we stand nowhere compared to these countries. The fact is India has very poor budget allocation for health services.

A glance on our health expenditure
India with its vast population spends only 4% of its budget allocation on health services. As per international standards there should be one doctor for every 1000 people but in India we have one doctor per 1700 persons. For example, America and Cuba have 1.5 and 6.7 doctors for 1000 persons respectively. America with a national income of $53,000 per person spends 18% of its national budget on health services although America does not fall in the category of best health service providers compared to some other countries.

In our country we are responsible for our own treatment although the government claims to provide free health service to every citizen through its hospitals but factually speaking these hospitals do not provide satisfactory services to citizen that forces them to go to private doctors. Let’s look at some other health models of the developed countries where all medical facilities are provided by government and private medical services are almost negligible. Let’s hope we shall be getting better health facilities in near future.
