India Wins First Test Against Australia Easily

One of the most satisfying things about the Indian win over Australia in the first Test match is the conviction with which they played the match. There was no doubt that India was playing for an outright win. The same was underlined when the captain cool came to the party.

It was the captain M S Dhoni who paved the way for the win. And yes, we cannot forget the contribution made by R Ashwin. If there was the double century by Dhoni, Ashwin too had one of the best figures in his bowling career. Dhoni scored 224 runs, while Ashwin picked up 12 wickets in the match.

The one thing that needs to be mentioned is about the bowling. If one hand, more than 1000 runs were scored in the entire Test match, there were as many as 32 wickets that fell too. Had the match been played for five full days, the stats would have been higher still.

As far as the bowling is concerned, it was the pace bowlers from Australia and the spinners from India who dominated the bowling department. James Pattinson got a five wicket haul in the first innings. On the other hand, Ashwin took 7 Aussie wickets to reduce them to 380 all out.

There was nothing from the India pace bowlers. As India was playing with 2 specialist spinners, the bulk of the bowling was shared between the two – Ashwin and Harbhajan. However, Ravindra Jadeja too did a reasonable bowling for India. He not only did the bowling, but also picked up wickets.

As far as the Indian batting is concerned, it was primarily the batting that won the Test match for India. Dhoni’s record score of 224, which fell short of just 8 runs which would have become the highest Test score by a wicketkeeper, along with meaningful contributions from Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli ensured, India was never out of the match.

Dhoni was rightly adjudged the man of the match for scoring a double ton as well as leading the side to victory. The second Test will get underway from March 2, Saturday and will be played in Hyderabad.

Congratulations to Team India for a fantastic victory and to Mahi for leading the  way!
