India's Biggest Wins In Test Cricket

There are incredible results and records that sprang up after India defeated Australia at Hyderabad in the second Test. Some of the records have been personal landmarks, while some have been team efforts altogether. It is time we take a look at some more stuff that the win brought for India. In this article we will look at India’s those wins that have come by an innings margin.

By an innings and 239 runs

The biggest win for India in terms of an innings victory came against Bangladesh in Mirpur. It was the 2007 season when Rahul Dravid was leading the team. That was the best win for India where it was a totally professional performance by India. This is the biggest win overseas for India in this category.

Though Rahul Dravid has not led India regularly in any format of the game, luckily, this win was registered when he was the captain.

By an innings and 219 runs

The second best win by an innings has come on the home soil. Under Mohd. Azharuddin’s captaincy in the season of 1997-98, India defeated Australia in Kolkata by an innings and 219 runs. It was the best win at home of this kind. It was a thoroughly one-sided match that India dominated right from the start. There was very little the Australians could do. They looked totally helpless against India then.

By an innings and 198 runs

It was M S Dhoni’s first biggest win for India by an innings as a captain. Playing against New Zealand in Nagpur a couple of seasons ago, India achieved this win quite comfortably. There was an all round contribution to this win and was indeed a satisfying one. This was the period when India was unstoppable in world cricket.

By an innings and 144 runs

It was again under M S Dhoni’s captaincy that India registered this win. This victory came against Sri Lanka in Kanpur in 2009-10. Leading from the front, it was the second huge victory for Dhoni and his boys. It was just the beginning of India’s realm over cricket when Dhoni was going great guns. There was hardly a foot wrong by Dhoni.

By an innings and 140 runs

Saurav Ganguly gets the credit for the fifth biggest win for India as a Test captain. His team defeated Bangladesh in Dhaka in 2004-05 season. The victory was a mark of trained Indian unit when they had travelled to Bangladesh.
