Impatience Is A Silent Killer

Impatience is a silent killer

Road rage has become a common form of crime on our roads. Road rage is nothing but an explosive outburst of impatience. A typical road rage scenario goes somewhat as follows. One driver gets impatient with the one ahead of him or her for not giving way, and starts honking incessantly. This irritates the driver in front, and he deliberately tries not to let the other pass. Soon there is a dangerous game of speeding, swerving and stopping which ends with both the cars in the garage and the drivers in hospital beds or worse. They don’t realize that it is better to be patient on the road than to be patients in the hospital or to rise above both patience and impatience on the wings of death. Spouse battering is anther unpleasant consequence of impatience. Rift between parents and children also hinges on the impatience of one party towards the other. It is a valid generalization. Unhappy homes are built of blocks of impatience. Impatience essentially is an inability to accept things as they are. Impatience affects all – male and female, young and old.

Patience is often bitter but its fruits are sweet. Impatience is waiting with worry.

Story:  A young boy loves mangoes. He saves money patiently over time, and buys the best mango seeds. He plants them the same day. He wants to see the seeds sprout the very next day. He contains himself for a few days. Then his impatience gets the better of him and he goes and digs the ground everyday to see if the mango seeds have sprouted. He feels angry and is upset over the seeds not sprouting. He doesn’t know that it is his own practice of poking around them that prevents the seeds from growing at their natural pace.

Let us examine ourselves to see if our impatience is the main stumbling block to our progress and prosperity. Impatience works like a poison that gets into a living system. It kills the system slowly and secretly from within. The victim realizes its true mature only after it is too late to do anything about it.

Impatience is so dangerous in its effects that it twists the perspectives of its victims long before it leads them to total destruction. Negative attitudes result directly from impatience. “Pessimism” and “Skepticism”, for example, are immediate descendants of impatience.
