Although there are almost 40 universities in Canada where Indians go for different professional courses in Engineering, management, medicine, Arts and design, Film & television, Mass media etc for research and masters degrees as well certificates and diploma courses. Most popular universities among the Indian students as per the number of students registered can be observed from the following list- McGill University, University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, University of Alberta, University de Montreal etc.

Preparation before leaving for Canada

A student willing to study in Canada must obtain a study permit that is a document issued by citizen and immigration department of Canada permitting a particular student in an institute for a particular course for a specific period. This permit is issued only when the institute accepts the application and sanctions his admission checking his financial position to make sure that student is able to pay fees, can afford to stay and of course his educational qualification meeting their standards. A police verification and thorough medical checkup is must in such cases.

Required qualification standards

Apart from under graduation, graduation and masters being the minimum qualifications for different courses the student traveling abroad required to appear in different other eligibility tests language, local conditions etc as well. Some of the main tests MCAT, GMAT, GRI, TOFEL, IELTS, SAT, OIT etc. which need to be cleared before traveling to Canada.

To enter in Canada for studies a student is required to take a student visa for the duration of his course but that is not a big problem for Indian students as long they can afford the fees the visa can also be applied online through Canadian embassy’s official site. Students willing to go to Canada must arrange the following papers –

1- ID proof

2- Financial resources (Parental Bank documents, IT returns, F.D. etc)

3- Medical examination as per embassy’s instruction and prescribed medical centers

4- Acceptance letter by authorized Canadian institute

5- A letter from custodian in Canada

Options to work in Canada

Citizen and immigration department allows foreign students to work in Canada issuing work permits to work as interns out of the campus, in case the student does not have a permit he can work within the campus only. In case of a student’s status being married, his/her spouse can work there during the period of his/her course in Canada.
