Gurukul a unique concept
I am not surprised to note that Gurukul concept is still popular with our higher study centers. The fact is evident as different Indian Institutes of Technologies organize a camp every year especially Kanpur IIT is doing it for last couple of years continually. The concept of Gurukul is finding so much of popularity among the foreign research scholars and faculties that even they are planning to go for similar sessions in their own countries.
The Gurukul concept
The environment of Gurukul is the main attraction for research scholars and faculties for its natural atmosphere and the way every one works living together in traditional Gurukul way. In such camps, every one works together on certain projects based on universal sustainable innovative designs for social changes. Members submit their projects in seven days, which are forwarded for further evaluation. The teams work in traditional ways sitting on floor as they do in Gurukul.
Team members go for fun tours and picnic together and to the local tourist interest places, while in Kanpur they enjoy boat rides in Ganges and cycling in city.
As the concept is being organized by design department of IIT Kanpur with 27 foreign participants expected from Sweden, France, Japan, Finland, South Africa etc apart from local scholars including the famous designer and faculty member from Kharagpur, WB Professor D. Udai Kumar, who designed the logo of Indian Rupee.
Participants from Sweden and Finland last year, who shall be here again this year found the concept so much that they wanted it to take place in their countries also and approached some of the senior organizers for the same.
The plan for 2014
The concept of Gurukul has become so popular that they have decided to take it to other countries and there is every chance that next Gurukul would be organized in a foreign institute. They love the way students work, live and enjoy with senior faculties and share their projects freely among the teams to improve work quality. The plan to work on a social problem with global reference and concern is supposed to be the next agenda although the subject not yet decided.
