Fight Club- The Movie Review

Released in 1998, Fight Club was underappreciated and many people were turned off by its violence and it ability to confuse the movie goers at that time but as the years passed by it garnered a cult following and soon became known as one of the most influential and shocking movies and right now it features among the top 20 best movies of all time in the noted list made by IMDB.

Directed by David Fincher this movie starts off with the lead character being thrust a gun in his mouth. He then recounts the incidents that led him to be in that position. One of the gimmicks is that the lead character’s name is never mentioned in the movie. Played by Edward Norton in one of his best performances, he is a bored insomniac who conforms to the normal societal trend of having an unsatisfied job and being generally tired of his life. A chance meeting with Brad Pitt’s character Tyler Durden in an airplane changes his life forever. After his house gets burnt down he calls Tyler and they soon start an underground fighting organization called Fight Club which soon spreads all over the country and becomes the subject of a police investigation. Our hero soon realizes that there is something else going on and that Tyler has taken over his life. Things go awfully awry after that and the rest of the movie is a class apart. I will not reveal the spoilers but suffice it to say that there is a huge twist which blows your mind.

One of the main attributes of the movie is that it looks like it was made in 2010 instead of 1998. The direction of David Fincher is absolutely mind blowing. Whether you like the movie or not this is one thing that will capture your attention. Edward Norton and Brad Pitt give some amazing performances and so does Helena Bonham Carter who plays Edward Norton’s love interest. The music is heart thumping and it keeps you in the edge of your seat. Most people have found this movie pointless and some people have called it bizarre but one thing that everyone has to agree is that it is very unforgettable. This movie makes you think and the stylish direction ensures you get entertained but you have to keep an open mind. If you do then you will love this movie.
