Nagpur is the second largest city in Maharashtra and served as its capital before the reorganization of states. It is not only the largest city in Central India it is also ranking as the cleanest city and the second greenest city which attracts more than more tourists from various parts of the world. Having connections with the tiger reserves, it has been declared as the tiger capital of the nation.

 

The name of the city originated from the name of the river flowing through the region. The Nag river is the tributary of the Kanhan River. The weather is hot in summer in Nagpur and so it is better to avoid visiting the city in summer season. The monsoon season starts in June and gives good amount of rainfall reducing the heat of the summer. But for these few rainy months the climate is dry all round the year.

 

Nagpur has air network connecting the major Indian cities and some notable international destinations. There are regular flights to Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Pune, Delhi and Nashik. The airport is located 7 km from the main city. Also, as it is situated in the center of India, it is connected by the crisscrossing railway lines from all metro cities of the nation. Buldi Station is the important bus terminal here. You can use the local buses or cars or rickshaws for getting around the city.

 

Nagpur is also said as the city of lakes due to the presence of numerous natural and manmade lakes. The important lakes are Gorewada Lake, Gandhisagar Lake, Sonegaon Lake and Telangkhedi Lake. The important places of visit in Nagpur are Shukrawari Lake, Raman Science Center, Maharaj Bagh, Lake Garden Sakkardara, Kasturchand Park, Khindsi Watersports, Dhamma Chakra Stupa, Botanical Gardens and Futala Lake. People with spiritual inclination might love visiting Ramdham which has all the Hindu deities under one roof. It is the largest cultural and spiritual park in Central India.

 

As Nagpur is famous for oranges, people like to bag them when they return. You should also try the orange related products that taste good and original like orange burfi, orange cakes, orange fruit drinks and so on. If you are interested in shopping then the right place to go would be to Itwari or Sadar or Dharampeth. The best place to buy souvenirs is Sunday Foot path market.

 

If you want to dine in natural surrounding while at Nagpur, then you have to go to Khindsi Lake where both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes are served in huts around the lake in evenings. The Mughlai dishes like Biryani taste better in restaurants in Momin Pura area and this is a must visit place in the month of Ramzan.

 

Alternatively you can attend the food festivals conducted in some high class Nagpur restaurants. For packed food items to be eaten during travels, Haldirams is the best place.
