Electricity has become a vital part of the human life. Without power supply even the mundane life these has become a challenge for everyone. For a student the power supply is essential at every stage thanks to the growth in use of every possible technological medium for studies to entertainment to every other activity on a given day. And in a student community like Manipal, the necessity of continuous power supply needs no doubts to be raised. However, the innumerable power cuts in a single day have found both trouble and solution.

For students who stay in hostel, the backup facility is well maintained. But for students who stay outside in shared apartments and rented houses, the problem is solved, but with a price tag attached. On an average estimate, 30% of the student community stay outside hostels. And these houses and apartments promise them 24 hour electricity back up. But the house owners are covering the expenses of diesel that is used in the generator machines within the rent. How far are students willing to pay the extra costs when the tension of diesel rates being hiked are blaring on news?

The situation will not see easy days in the near future unless the price of diesel goes down. The students who are going to be a part of the Manipal Student community in the further years to come will perhaps have to reschedule their cost cutting and budgeting stories.

Even then the constant disruption of electricity due to various reasons cited by the electricity board like Load shedding or what not does lead to problems for the student who need light to study. That too Manipal, as we all know can get very hot and humid, not just during the summers but during all seasons. It gets quite impossible to survive in that weather, much less study and go to college every day.  The state has to realise that this is a problem that needs immediate attention, not just in Manipal but all around the state which is reeling with a serious shortage of electricity which would be very bad.
