Depression Signs And Symptoms

 

Sadness is normal reaction to loss, despair, life's struggles, disappointments and sorrow. Depression is different from normal sadness that interfere with your ability to work, sleep, eat, study, and have fun. Some depressed people don't feel sad but they may feel lifeless, empty, and apathetic, or some people in particular may even feel angry, aggressive and restless. Depression is much more than just sadness.

Are you depressed?

Depression occurs when you have at least five of the following symptoms at the same time:

  1. Insomnia (an inability to sleep) or hypersomnia (excessive sleeping) almost every day.
  2. You can’t concentrate on a particular thing or find that previously easy tasks are now difficult.
  3. Feeling of helpless and hopeless.

  1. You are much more irritable, short-tempered, or aggressive than usual.
  2. You’re consuming more alcohol than normal or engaging in other reckless behaviour.
  3. You can’t control your negative thoughts, even you tried very much.
  4. Feelings of worthlessness or guilt almost every day
  5. Significant weight loss or weight gain

A key sign of depression is either depressed mood or loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed. symptoms that occur within two months of the loss of a loved one are not considered to be clinical depression.

Signs and symptoms of depression

Depression varies from person to person, but there are some common signs and symptoms.The deep despair and hopelessness that goes along with depression can make feeling of suicide. They consider it is the only way to escape from pain. When these symptoms are overwhelming and disabling, that's when it's time to seek help.

Loss of sleep or excessive sleep. Waking in the early hours of the morning or oversleeping are symptoms of depression.

Irritability or Anger. Your tolerance level is low, short tempered, restless

Loss of weight or weight gain. Feeling fatigued, sluggish, and physically drained and show significant weight loss or weight gain.

Self-loathing. You criticize yourself for perceived faults and mistakes. Strong feelings of worthlessness or guilt.

Reckless behaviour. You may engage in escapist behavior such as compulsive gambling, reckless driving, or dangerous sports and much use of alchohol.

Unexplained aches and pains. You may feel headaches, back pain, aching muscles.

Loss of interest in daily activities. You can’t concentrate on a particular thing or loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed.
