Especially idlis and dosas are made from rice and urid dhal. You have take five parts of rice and one part of urid dhal and a little of fenugreek seeds and soak them for 5 or 6 hours. Then you should grind them to paste with grinder and let them ferment overnight. The batter should be stored in refrigerator and used when necessary. Idli is made with steam cooking method and dosas are made on special tawa. Idli with chutney is an ideal food that contains most of the essential nutrients. There are more than a dozen variety of dosas prepared at South Indian homes like adai dosa, set dosa vadakari, rava dosa, masal dosa, onion dosa, ghee dosa, etc.

 

There are some sweet Indian recipes for breakfast also for the sweet lovers. Though they are not prepared daily they are made during special occasions like festival times. These items are halwa, payasam, kheer, sweet pongal, jelabi and sweetened milk. Savory vermicelli or semiya, noodles, macroni and kuzhi paniyarams are the favorites of many children. Takdi, kari upma, egg paratha, chicken semiya and rice roti are also made in some traditional families.
