ABOUT DELHI 

Delhi, the capital of India, is the center of finance and politics of the country. It is located in Northern India and borders Uttar Pradesh (east), and Haryana (north, south, and west). The climate in Delhi is humid subtropical, which means that the summer season is exceptionally long and hot. From March to May, extreme heat experienced in the city. Hindi is the language spoken by most people in Delhi. However, there are other languages that spoken in the city. Among of which are Urdu, Punjabi, and English. Other languages are Marathi, and Nepali, to name a few.

HISTORY

Delhi has a long history, including the land conquests, and the many empires that existed. New Delhi contains the remains of several cities that existed before it.

Indraprastha – 1450 BC this was Delhi’s oldest city. There are no artifacts to support the reason for the fall of this city.

Lal Kot – 1060 AD

Siri – 1304 AD

Tughlaqabad – 1321 - 23 AD

Jahanpanah – Middle of the 14th Century

Ferozabah – 1354 AD

Dilli SHer Shahi – 1534

Shajahanabad – Middle of the 17th Century

New Delhi – 1920s this is the city that exists until today.

CULTURE

Being the capital of India, Delhi has been the capital of traditions and festivals in the country. The long history of Delhi has significantly influenced their practices and celebrations. They have national events such as the Republic Day, Independence Day, and Gandhi’s birthday (called as Gandhi Jayanti), which happily celebrated with many festivities. Along with national events, they also pay tribute to their religion with their own religious festivals such as Diwali, Maha Shivaratri, Buddha Jayanti, Holi, Moharram, and Lohri, to name a few. Foods in Delhi are from different cuisines all over the country such as Bengali and Maharashtrian.

DELHI AS THE CENTER OF INDIAN POLITICS

New Delhi is the political capital of the Government of India, as well as the State Government of Delhi. The Indian Congress Party was a prominent part of the democratic history of Delhi. What makes Indian politics different from any other political setup in the world is that the Constitution of India has the longest constitution. The Parliament permitted to supervise or look over the functions and the operations of the government, as stated in the Indian Constitution. The citizens of each state are able to elect their government leaders, whereas union territories have their leader appointed for them.

SUMMARY

Delhi has a rich history and political background. This would explain why they have a rich culture that the people of Delhi are proud of. With the difficulties that the city has gone through for the past centuries, it is undeniable that their practices based from the experiences of the city. Now, the city of Delhi is continuing to develop, alongside with the other developed countries around the world. Other nations should consider the city as a model when it comes to development and unity because these make Delhi a city rich with culture and love from its people.
