Dehradun

Dehradun is one of the most beautiful and well-planned city in India. Dehradun situated in the lap of Himalayas’ foothills is capital of Uttranchal State. Dehradun is very famous among the tourists for its panoramic beauty and tourist centers besides being the gateway for reaching to Mussorie the hill queen of India situated about 40 km away from here. Tourist can see Dehradun from Mussorie as star-studded sky when the lights are switched on in the evening hours.   

Dehradun named after Guru Dronacharya as Dron Ashram initially since Dronacharya came to this place looking for peace and stayed here for a long time. Dehradun used to be the main center of activities of Garhwali rulers and later became one of the favorite places of British rulers. Dehradun is famous for Doon school, National Military Academy and center for Survey of India.

The places to visit when in Dehradun are as following-

1- Sahastradhara- It is a beautiful place famous for a natural Waterfall with one thousand small streams. The place is very well maintained and has an added attraction in its natural Sulphuric streams. The place is situated at a distance of about 10 km from Dehradun town, well connected through local transport services.

2- Deer Park – Located at main Dehradun-Mussorie highway, this mini Park houses various species of deer and other animals found in the area. The park has facilities for children and serves as picnic spot for visitors and locals. The beautiful park remains full of visitors especially on public holidays.

3- Chandrabani- Chandrabani is located at Dehradun-Delhi highway about 7 km on the main road. It is an ancient tank where Mahatma Goutam used to stay with his family and the tank is one of the star attractions for tourists who come for a holy dip here. The local administration has developed this spot as a tourist’s spot.

4- Guchchupani also called Rover’s cave – The spot is famous for its Natural beauty where tourist gather for picnic purpose. The waterfall is the added attraction for the tourists who walk the last kilometer to reach to the spot.
