Culture And Languages Tell A Lot About Indian Civilization

No doubt, culture, architecture and languages have a lot to tell about our ancient civilization. We, the followers of ancient civilization, though modernized and altered many of those ancient things, still use them with more or less alterations. Our languages, literature, arts, crafts, measurements and monuments are the examples of these facts.

As a part of Indus valley civilization, when the bronze statue of a dancing girl was mined from Mohenjo-Daro it was a solid proof that people of that era were proficient in art as well as culture. It was also well proved that they exhibited many talents that proved to be the basement of modern civilization and culture.

As per records, around 7000 languages do exist. But it’s believed that at least one among those 7k languages gets erased every month. About 300 languages exist in India and 40 in Kerala. It includes many tribal languages without writing script too. Divehi language (Mahal) of Minicoy islands is without written script. Yet a program is being telecasted in Kerala Akashwani in this language, to promote it.

Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu belong to Dravidian languages. Many opinions are there about the origin of Malayalam. It’s believed that Malayalam split from Moola Dravid language last – the youngest of all the four major south Indian languages. Language of a particular region is influenced by its culture, knowledge of people, life style, agriculture, modes of living, literature as well as art. Ancient proverbs, idioms and poems are best instances for such beauty of a particular language and its literature. Language and usage of words may differ from place to place. Same is the case of measurements too.

Our predecessors had their own heritage and cultural beliefs. They were deeply rooted in the religion they followed. Holy places and places of worship have really contributed a lot in the growth of a section of people, their culture, literature, social life and system of living. Art, vasthu sastra, music, dance, literary pieces, paintings, sculptures and buildings are instances of that. Odyssey and Iliad – the great epics written by Homer show some similarities with Indian epics. India’s first gold coins too show Indian-Greece relationship. Religious beliefs and reading based on devotion were common for both Indians and Greek.
