For man’s satisfaction and selfish thoughts, thousands of wild animals and birds are hunted everyday. Let me mention a few.

Peacock feathers – Peacock feathers are everyone’s favourite – from a small baby to an old man. At least for a few, it’s Lord Krishna’s symbol. But have you ever thought that a lot of poor peacocks are hunted purely for this purpose? Wild goose, love birds, wild crow – the list is long. Feathers of such wild birds are collected illegally for selling purposes.

Fishes and shells – A lot of fishes commonly seen in our streams and lakes are decorative fishes for foreign countries. They are found only in a few places. When they are caught from our fresh water streams and transported, majority of them die. Similarly such decorative fishes and sea shells are also exported to foreign countries. They are used for preparing handicrafts, ornaments and for religious purposes, thus resulting in their death. Butterfly fishes and three major items of mussels are now facing threats.

Scorpion and spiders – For persons who love to grow living beings in glass containers, spiders and scorpions are hot favourites. Grass hoppers are also transported widely for this purpose.

A lot of duplicates in markets – Duplicates and wild life parts like tusk of elephants and rhinoceros are attractions in market. It’s not easy to recognize the original. In addition to it, skin of tiger and leopard and pancreas of bear are also available as ‘duplicates’.

Traps are many – Wild animals like leopard, tiger and bear are trapped by legs and then killed using spear or gun shot. Passing electricity or injecting poison is next choices. Traps are built for animals like elephant and rhinoceros. When they fall into the trap, they are killed by passing electricity or using bullets. Babies of birds are taken from their nests while wild duck, wild hen and heroin are trapped using net or killed using bullet.

The crooked methods of exporting – It’s against law to trap, kill or transport wild animals without the permission of forest department. But criminals always find strange ways to transport and export them. For transporting small creatures and products, they use special suitcases for this purpose while socks, body belts and jackets are used for carrying snakes. Babies of peacock and partridges are transported taking ‘chicken’ names. It’s very sad to know that many species have been already erased from earth’s surface due to such selfish thoughts. Traveler pigeon and West Indian monkeys have gone from this earth’s surface due to man’s hunting.
