Sania Mirza is the daughter of a sports journalist who later on became a star tennis player. She was born and brought up in a Muslim family in a pious and religious environment. She started to play tennis at her age of six and became a professional tennis player in 2003 when she was 17 years old. She received her initial training from her father.

From the day she started to play tennis she has been getting into controversies for one reason or the other. She was slammed by Islamic people for wearing objectionable outfits. These dresses were considered as anti-islamic and so Islamic gurus condemned her. There were lots of controversies in matters related to her marriage. She became a part of the headlines for many bad reasons.

She was trapped for disrespecting the national flag of India. In the year 2008, an amateur photographer saw her resting her legs on a desk that had a national flag on it. It is naturally hurting the sentiments of any person having patriotic fervor. She was dragged to the court for this reason as the complaint was filed under the U/s 2 of Prevention of National Honor Act. She pleaded guilty before the magistrate and media claiming that she was unaware of the fact that the flag was present on the table.

She became the talk of the town in the matters related to the City Security Wing. She was given two armed men to give her protection as she was one of the millionaires of Hyderabad. She was not able to pay her security bills and later her father explained that all these tussle were due to the miscommunication between her and the government.

The dresses that she chose to wear are always a matter of controversy. The photographers have clicked photos to reveal the same and it is obvious that this was not as per the culture of India. She was at first engaged to Mohammed Sohrab Mirza and at that time, a young man came out claiming that she was already wedded to him. After this problem was over the engagement broke off saying compatibility reasons. In fact Sohrab Mirza was her childhood friend and it is a wonder how he could break off the engagement citing such a reason.

In the year 2008 another young man was arrested for sending her vulgar messages to her cell phone. He claimed to be in love with her and later was put in jail. When Sania Mirza chose to marry the Pakistan cricket captain of that time Shoaib Malik, her patriotism was put under question. Indian never has good terms with Pakistan and so there were controversies whether she will play for Pakistan in future. As a result of this controversy, her effigies and photos were burnt in public in Hyderabad. She became a hot topic of discussion in media. But still the marriage of Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza went on well. She continues to play for India and proves herself to be one of the best tennis players of the world.
