Contents Of Upanishats

 

Upanishats can be said to be the ultimate and final interpretations of the Vedas. These interpretations and meanings are valid even in the modern science and technology age. These give man many advices and guidelines for attaining a faithful life on earth.

 

Actually, it was through the upanishats that common man could understand the contents of Vedas. There are innumerable upanishats. Out of these ten are important. These are innumerable upanishats. Out of these ten are important. These are: Isavasya, Kena, Kadha, prasna,Mundaka, Mandookya, Threya, Thythireeya,chhandogya, and Brihadaranyaka. The Upanishts are written as a mixture of prose and poetry. Mostly, the ideas are presented as stories. The ideals and principles are presented through the stories and similies. The Upanishats are explaining everything connected with the three factors:God,Universe and life of man.. The disciple is asking the guru some doubts and the guru the ansers. This question-answer method is very helpful for understanding the concepts. The problems faced by man, even those in the modern world, can be found presented in the Upanishats. These problems are explained, and then the solutions to these problems are also dealt in detail. The solutions are given as advices in the answers by the master to the student.

 

The upanishats actually provide and explanation of the system of life in this worlds. Also it gives detailed account of the life after the death of person. Through these lessons the Upanishat clearly provides the guidelines in the literature include very simple, ordinary ones as well as those which cannot be easily answered or whose meanings cannot be understood by ordinary man. The guidelines and advice, along with the principles explained in the upanishats are very practical and highly useful, especially for the modern man who is in total confusion and is in deep sorrow and depression.

 

In the Bhishama parva of Mahabharat is presented a dialogue between Arjuna, the leader of the force of pandavas, and his chariot rider, Sri Krishna, the Avatar, just before the beginning of the kurukshetra war. Arjuna felt mentally depressed and became very inactive since he thought that fighting against his own brothers was a sin. Then, Sri Krishna advises Arjuna on the need to fight. It is in the form of a speech in which he is stressing the value of karma. These pieces of advice are known as the Bhagavat gita .
