Child Artists To Bollywood Divas - Who Are They?

 

Some of the top heroines of Bollywood in the 1990s and later have entered silver screen playing child artist roles. While Aamir Khan, Rishi Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan are among the big names of Bollywood who started their careers as child artists, there are some top heroines as well. Yet Bollywood queen Sridevi, Urmila Matondkar of Masoom and Hansika Motwani of Koi Mil gaya are among the top Indian actresses who have been child artists earlier. Let us add a few more names in the list.

 

Tabu played the role of a teenager in 1985 movie, Nau Jawan. She is the younger sister of one of the stars of 1980s – Farah. Later with mid-1990s she entered silver screen playing many memorable roles and bagged the prestigious National award twice for her role in Maachis and Chandini Baar as well. She is one of the most talented actresses of present times. Perhaps the name which has invited a lot of attention is none other than Urmila Matondkar of Masoom. She played the elder daughter of Shabana Azmi and Nassaruddin Shah in 1983 movie – Masoom and also was seen in the popular children song – lakdi ki khati. Alia Bhatt – one of the most successful actresses of 2014 played Preity Zinta’s childhood role in Sangursh.

 

Amrita Prakash of Vivah fame has played child artist in Tum Bin. Konkona Sen Sharma, Malvika Raaj and Shruti Haasan too have shown glimpses on big screen as a child artist. Swetha Basu of Makdee fame has done many top films in south. Similar is the case of Hansika Motwani, who played one among the small friends of Hrithik Roshan in Koi Mil Gaya. Complan girl of 1980s – Ayesha takia and First Rasna girl - Ankita Jhaveri also can be included in the list. Sana Saeed – the second lead of ‘Student of the year’ is still remembered as the cute 8-year old daughter of Shah Rukh Khan in Bollywood blockbuster – KKHH.

 

Let me add a few old names too to the list. Can anyone forget the sweet Padmini Kolhapure who played young Zeenat Aman in Satyam Sivam Sundaram? Popular character cum comedy star Aruna Irani entered silver screen playing the child role of Vyjayanthimala in Ganga Jamuna, followed by Anpat. Neetu Singh – the cute actress of ‘Amar Akbar Antony’ played the famous double role in ‘Do Kaliyan’. And last, but not the least is Sridevi who sizzled on silver screen throughout 1980s and 1990s. She portrayed child artist in many movies of 1960s like Kumara sambhavam and appeared as a teenager in Lakshmi starrer – Julie.
