Chandigarh

The capital of Hariyana and Punjab Chandigarh is one of the most planned and beautiful cities of our country. Having the status of Union Territory Chandigarh situated at the foothills of Shivalik range of Himalaya is the only planned city of India which has no footpath markets or unauthorized construction including temporary shops we can see in all other cities of the country.

The city was planned by world famous architect Le Corbusier to fulfill the dreams of our first Prime Minister Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru with modern architectural designs, wide roads is also famous as ‘City Beautiful’. The city is approximately115 km in area which is connected with Punjab, Hariyana and Himachal Pradesh. The famous garden city attracts thousands of visitors from allover the world to enjoy the famous tourist spots situated in the city and around it.

Tourist spots-

A- Rock Garden- The world famous Rock garden built by Padma Shree Nekchand is considered one of the best of its kind for its use of waste items decorated and designed so beautifully to make them attractive that cannot be described in words unless you see them with your own eyes.

B- Sukhna Lake- The most visited tourist spot in Chandigarh is the artificial Sukhna Lake with facilities of boating, water sports and other water activities and birds visiting from different areas of the world which make it an attraction point for bird watchers.

C- Rose Garden- This is one of the best Rose Gardens in India with thousands of local and imported varieties of roses in approximately 30 acres of land. The garden is considered the biggest of its kind in whole of the Asian continent. The administration organizes a Rose festival here every year. A 70’ high Fountain is an added attraction of the garden. 

D- City Museum- The museum mainly houses the plans, blueprints, models and related material used during the planning stage of the city that gives an idea how the city was developed. 

E- Kalasagar- It is a park constructed by Vijai Pal Goel using thrown away items such as old sanitary items, water tanks, valves, pipes etc. He has used these waste items with so much artistry and imagination that the visitors find it hard to believe that these items are made of waste items.

F- Topiary Park- It is another unique creation with plants cut in designs of various animals that attract hundreds of tourists every day to witness the beauty of the place.
