Bharat Ratna Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya

Bharat Ratna 2015
The entire country is happy and excited for the honor conferred upon Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya on Monday the 30 March 2015 posthumously. Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya who established Kashi Hindu University also played an important role in India’s freedom movement. The role of Pandit Madan Mohan as a pioneer with innovative ideas in Indian education world will always be remembered with great respect.
Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya who is best known as founder of Kashi Hindu University (also known as BHU) in the year of 1916 was also a well known social activist who did a lot of work for education of Indian women as he always believed the Indian women as the future mother of citizen of India need the education more than their male counterparts do. Madan Mohan Malviya had a very clear, modern and realistic vision about religion. Incidentally what he thought a century before is still very much relevant in today’s reference as well.

Vision Of an educationist
According to Pandit Malviya, the education system should be programmed that provides practical knowledge, should be scientific, must have cultural and artistic touch besides able to provide enough knowledge that helps local entrepreneur and industry. According to Malviya Ji the contemporary education system was not worth for a country like ours as it was originally meant for other countries and even those countries had already gotten rid of that outdated education system.

What Pandit Malviya said in 1920 is still relevant for our education system, he said- ‘The high school level education in this country can succeed like other countries when it is to make the student able to earn money for his livelihood. The main reason for unemployment is that the education system of our country is not providing job oriented courses but the university degrees in arts and science streams make them eligible for clerical jobs and our government does not have enough clerical jobs for every degree holder’

Conclusion

The views of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya were crystal clear on subject of Nationalism. He thought that every citizen should be taught about patriotism along with higher education. One should learn about national characteristic values in this multicultural country in place of teaching them regional, religious fundamentalism, etc. He was a keen follower of patriotic values taught in many developed countries and wanted to follow them here in our country as regular subject in our schools and colleges.
