Udit Narayan is one among those leading singers of Bollywood whose voice has been used repeatedly for the romantic hero of Bollywood and in most cases they were sweet melodious numbers which mesmerizes music lovers till now. It’s not an easy task to choose best 10 songs of this combination. Yet it’s my attempt to do so.

Throughout 1990s, music composers used Udit Narayan and Kumar Sanu’s voices alternatively for Shah Rukh Khan and in quite a few cases like Yes Boss and Badshah, Abhijeet’s voice was also experimented which proved successful as well. In many movies, Udit Narayan and Kumar Sanu have sung songs for this single hero. Which are those 10 best songs?

The first song that comes to my mind is of course E ajnabee of Dil se composed by Rahman in 1998. This song is one of the most memorable and golden songs of Udit Narayan up-to-date. Of course, this song is my favourite too and still now I can’t point out why, like that stranger (Ajnabee) of this song why this song bring tears to my eyes. ‘Woh Chand jaise ladki’ of Devdas also holds a similar touch.

‘Tum paas aaye’ of Kuch kuch hota definitely comes in the best 10 songs of my list. The song was pictured on SRK, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee in a unique way and it was one of the chartbuster songs of the year 1998 as well. Dil To Pagal Hai, Are re are and Bholi is surat Dil To Pagal Hai are also memorable romantic tracks of this combination. When Uttam Singh composed music for the first time in Bollywood, he chose Udit’s voice over Kumar sanu for Dil to pagal hai which proved right.

When Madan Mohan’s music was recreated 20 years after his death, the most romantic song of the movie Main Yahan Hoon Yahan – Veer Zaara was given to none other than Udit, which proved right as well. Ho Gaya Hai Tujko To Pyar Sajna of DDLJ and Humko Humise Chura Lo of Mohabbatein can never be excluded from the list.

The teasing numbers - Mehandi Lagake Rakhna of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Bole Chudiyan – Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham are among the fast numbers sung by Udit Narayan for SRK. Yeh Taara Woh Taara and Yun Hi Chala Chal of Swades was another fast number pictured on SRK. Bairi piya of Devdas, Jaadu Teri Nazar of Darr, Khaike Paan Banaraswala of Don, Title track of Ram Jaane, Hamesha Tumko Chaha of Devdas and Rukh ja of DDLJ also need special mention.
