Baking Break - Mrs. Mandhakini Gupta

Seeing her mother cooking Mrs Mandhakini Gupta right from the age of five always dreamt to be a chef. But later she started her career as a Television Journalist. But later she left the job at television for learning baking which was her dream since childhood.

5 years back before starting her career she even did not even know how to bake a simple cake. But not she is running her own bakery called “Spaten”. Her bakery has won a very good name. She has grown in such a level that recently on the occasion of Mr Shahid Kappor’s marriage she supplied chocolates which stole everyone’s heart at that function.

Her journey was not so easy. After saying goodbye to Television Journalism, she contacted many people through emails and messages to get a chance and to join as a chef but she did not receive any reply from anyone. One day she got a mail from Mr Baklish Dhin, who was working as a chef in “The Park Hotel” of New Delhi. She joined as a interne in that hotel. This was her first step towards her career of Chef.

Mrs Mandhakini Gupta says “Baking is my passion, but I did not start my business immediately after learning. When I felt confident about myself without depending on any one, and had the confidence to maintain the shop, then I started my business. My husband is a journalist, he too like cooking. My success is all because of his encouragement. I did not go to France for training, I don’t know Frech also. I have to spend Rs 50 lakhs to get trained in “Culinary Institute” and we don’t have that much money for it. So I worked in “Indigo Delhi” of Mumbai and “WD50” a commercial kitchen of New York. And later I did 3 months course in “French Culinary Institute” of Manhattan, after getting trained well I planned to start my own bakery called “Spaten” which gives me lot of satisfaction.

She says that “The appreciation received from my customers is most valuable for me, just supplying my order is not enough for me, but I always ask the feedback and see that I will not commit the mistake if any done previously in baking.
