Baichung Bhutia - Great Football Player

 

Baichung Bhutia is the most famous Football player that India has produced. Born on 15th December 1976, Baichung hails from Sikkim. He studied at St. Xavier School at East Sikkim. Right from his young age, he showed great interest towards football game. Karma Bhutia, his uncle gave tremendous encouragement that made the way for his football achievements. At the age of nine, Bhutia got scholarship from Tashi Namgyal Academy.

 

During Subroto Cup held at Delhi in 1992, he won the best player award that got the attention of Indian football fans towards him. Former Indian goalkeeper Bhaskar Ganguly was impressed on Bhutia’s skill and helped him to move forward in professional football. He joined East Bengal club a famous Football club at the age of 16, then he moved to JCT Mills in the year 1995. In the same year his club won the National football league as Bhutia scored the maximum number of goals.

 

In 1999, Bhutia became the first Indian player to play professional football in England. He won best player award in the year 1995 and 2008. He got Sikkim State Award and Arjuna Award in the year 1999. He played vital role and led the Indian team to clinch the LG Cup held at Vietnam in 2002. East Bengal Club, JCT Mills, Mohun Bagan, Bury FC and India are the major team that Bhutia represented.
