About Arunachal Pradesh

 

This North-Eastern state on the Republic of India borders two other states namely Assam and Nagaland. It also shares its border with China, Bhutan, and Myanmar. Arunachal Pradesh means Land of the Rising Sun. Its capital city is Itanagar. The state symbols of Arunachal Pradesh are as follows:  The state bird is Hornbill, Gayal is the state animal, Foxtail Orchid is the state flower and the Hollong is the state tree.

 

Geography & Climate

 

Arunachal Pradesh is the Himalayan state, with much of its region covered by high mountain peaks. The lower levels of the state are that that borders the state of Assam consists of the semi-evergreen forested regions of Brahmaputra valley. The Himalayan range in the state separates it from Tibet, and the one entering in Nagaland is called Patkai Bum Hills. These are lower in height and form a natural border between India and Myanmar.  The state experiences three different types of climate the upper Himalayan region have the alpine climate, Middle Himalayan region is temperate climatic region and the lower sea level region has a sub-tropical climate.

 

Population & Religious demography

 

The state is divided in cultural spheres that are based on tribal identity, language and religion. The people of related tribes occupy these spheres and they speak the same language and follow same cultural traditions. Apart from these cultural nodes or spheres, there are a large number of migrants from other parts of India and from neighboring Bangladesh. The tribals following indigenous religions and the Hindus together make up the majority of the population, followed by the Christians and the Buddhists.  The state is 67% literate with 74% male and 60% female population according to the 2011 census.

 

Economy

 

Agriculture is the main driving force of the economy, with the tribals practicing the shifting cultivation called Jhum. Lumbering and its related activities are prohibited under the law. The main crop of the state includes rice, maize, and oilseeds. The temperature of the state is ideal for fruit orchards and thus has been an important center for fruit preservation industry.

 

Administration

 

On 20th February, 1987 the Union territory on Arunachal Pradesh became a full fledge state with a Legislative assembly of 60 members. Arunachal Pradesh is represented in the Indian Parliament by 1 member in Rajya Sabha and 2 members in the Lok Sabha.
