All You Need To Know About Mumbai Weather

Mumbai is the capital city of Maharashtra. It is a coastal city located near the Arabian Sea. Thus, winds from the Arabian Sea largely influence the Mumbai weather. Mumbai is actually situated between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats.

There are many people who believe that there is no other season in Mumbai except summer. In reality, weather in Mumbai consists of three seasons. These seasons are extremely hot summer, monsoon and a cool pleasant winter. Some people also consider that ‘October heat’ is prevalent in Mumbai and hence it should be treated as a different season.

In summers, the mercury doesn’t rise beyond 38°C. However, the humidity present in the air during summers and monsoon season makes the Mumbai weather unbearable. At times, humidity even reaches 90%. Thus, it becomes very sweaty, irritating and sticky during summers. The hot weather in Mumbai i.e. summer season starts in March and ends in June. During summers, people generally face a very tough time because of water scarcity. The requirements for water go up during summers but supply comes down. However, the hot season fails to dampen the spirits of Mumbaikars or the people of Mumbai. They purchase more sun glasses, sun screens and hide under umbrellas. Despite the weather in Mumbai, people continue being social, continue attending parties and playing cricket in gullies.

After the hot months of summer, comes the monsoon season. The monsoon season starts in June till September. People experience extreme joy after the after shower of rain. This is because of the fact that the temperatures lower down slightly. The Mumbai weather continues to be very humid. During rainfalls, people use raincoats, umbrellas and boots. Rainfalls do not cause any problem as long as they do not flood the cities. Due to the efficient working of the Municipal Corporation, monsoons in Mumbai cause massive flooding, water loggings, traffic jams and car breakdowns. During monsoons, the lifeline of Mumbai i.e. the local trains also breaks down.

In October, the temperatures start to rise all over again. It is a joy time for sellers of ice creams, juices, butter milk, colas, mineral water and coconut water. This is due to the fact that the sales of the above items start to rise. Even though the temperature is rising, Mumbaikars enjoy Diwali in a very elaborate manner.

The winter season is the most awaited season of Mumbai. This is the season looked forward by tourists. Many weddings also take place during this season. Winter season lies between November and March. Though, it is winter season, temperatures do not fall beyond 15°C and maximum temperature lies between 23-27°C. It is a pleasant weather and people are not required to wear shawls, strolls or other winter wear. During winters, cool breeze blows during the day and the climate is dry. Thus, Mumbaikars love the winter season.

To summarize, weather in Mumbai can be described using five words- wet, cool, dry, humid and hot. Mumbai is a city where temperatures can sour and nobody can deny that. Mostly, it is said that despite of not a very pleasant weather, Mumbaikars love the city. Once, a person comes to Mumbai, he never leaves the city!
