Bhubaneswar being the capital city of Orissa is one of the busiest cities of the state. The ancient shrines and the architectural elegance of the land are the welcoming features. It is also noted for its peacefulness without any violent activities. As it is a city of temples some age old traditions are followed here and it is advisable to be aware of them and follow them when at the city and entering the temples.

 

The famous temples of the city are located in the Old Town area. The places of visit here are Bindu Sarovar, Khandagiri, Udayagiri, Daula Giri, Mukteshwara Temple, Rajarani Temple, Odisha State Museum, Krishna Balarama Mandir, Nanadankanan Zoo and Museum of Tribal Art and Artifacts. The rock edits belonging to the 300 B.C. are famous among people. The Shanti Stupa here is a standing example of Indo-Japanese architectural style.

 

The ancient temples side by side with the modern buildings at Sachivalaya Road are enjoyable. A short trip to the adjacent hills will make the days more pleasant. Other getaways are Chilika Lake, Bhitarkanika National Park, Rock City and Silk City.

 

Those who want to buy some souvenirs may look at the pipli handicrafts, gemstones, paper mache masks and silver filigree works that are sold here. Good restaurants are found in Janpath area and some fine vegetarian eateries are located around railway station. There are lots of lassi shops that sell cool yoghurt drinks and since this city is popular for the lassi you should not forget to taste them.
