A Few Underground Water Matters!

Water – the most vital substance needed for our existence apart of food and air. Though 99% of earth is filled with water and 2/3rd area is covered by seas, only a small percentage of water is available for living beings to drink. Though rainwater is available in almost all parts of the world, majority of water goes wasted as it is not stored properly. If we give importance to rain harvesting programs water scarcity won’t be a big problem during hot summer.

Do you know water that reaches the inner core of earth takes more than hundred years to reach sea? Yes, though it sounds easy that once water flows inwards, it gets assimilated in seas fast. It’s not the case. There are many streams through which ground water flows. When we dig ground to get water, if we reach one or two of such streams that carry water, we get it. That’s how we get water through wells and bore wells. If you find rock while digging, it’s a tedious process to break that rock. It adds total expenses too. But if you are able to break rock and reach a water source, then that water source will never dry. Also, as it’s earthy it’s the most pure form of water.

Through global warming, cut down of trees and forests and construction of flats, we now witness melting of ice in poles. Ozone hole is another reason. Sea level of earth is increasing by a few millimeters every year. If things go like this, very soon, many of our coastal areas and port towns will be dipped by water. Wet lands, forests and big trees save a lot of water for future purpose.

When water falls on earth, trees and plants store a small amount. Wet lands are capable of storing rain water in large amount. Small streams combine with big rivers, ultimately reaching the vast ocean. Through perspiration and severe heat also, water is being evaporated from earth’s surface, though underground water is preserved by different natural forms by earth. The rest water goes to underground, a small part of it, we dig out for drinking purposes. Also during rainy seasons and hot summer, water levels vary considerably.
