A Few Thoughts On The Indian Bowling Against Australia

For at least a few more days, the Indian bowling against Australia will remain the talk of the town. And the tall medium fast bowler Ishant Sharma will always be the center of unwanted attraction. He is already being looked at like a villain who came between India and victory.

However, every player in any form of sports can have an off day. This can happen to anyone. Even the masters of the trades have failed earlier. So it would be very unjust to take pot shots at Ishant Sharma. Even the iconic Sachin Tendulkar did have his share of hard luck with the bat.

There are some top bowlers who have conceded more than 60 runs in 10 overs and have gone wicketless in an ODI. Even James Faulkner gave away 60 runs in only seven overs in the second match when batsmen of either side were playing attacking cricket.

Shane Watson also had an off day when he conceded 47 runs in five overs and didn’t pick up any wicket. He was proving so costly that he did not even bowl the entire quota of his bowling.

If one can remember well, South Africa plundered more than 100 runs off the bowling of Mick Lewis during the successful world record chase of 434 runs. South Africa scored 438 runs in 49.5 overs. Mick Lewis has gone in the record books for being a bowler to have given 113 runs on 12 March, 2006.

So, any bowler can have an off day and there is nothing to term anyone harshly or drop a player on the performance of a single match. Yes, it can be said that the match was tilted in India’s favor until Ishant bowled that fateful over. But then even James Faulkner played a blinder. One cannot expect a similar innings from the Australian each time and every time.

Even batsmen have had off matches. For some players, a particular series never goes according to plans and their stats get disturbed. Even if any bowler decides, he cannot bowl so badly. It is just another nightmare professionals have to go through.

Adversaries prove to be a great way to rise from the dust for those who understand the opportunity.
