A Few Historic Monuments Made By Man

 

Monuments are the live examples and proofs of ancient man’s talents and piece of art. Their excellence in art and culture prevailed during that period are scripted well in such historic monuments. Through this article, let me introduce a few of such.

 

Brihadeeswara temple – This temple has been included by UNESCO in World heritage sites. The main attraction is the 70 metre height gopura and to carry the stones to the top to build this temple, a clay bridge was built that time with 10 km length. Thanjavur is famous for its cultural heritage, politics, literature and religion and is among the hottest tourist destination and pilgrimage too. We can’t stop wondering or appreciating those great personalities whose brains, manual effort and technology have been used to make this project real!

 

Padmanabha puram Palace – Now this palace is in Tamilnadu, Thakkaley of Kanya Kumari district, yet under the direct governance of Kerala tourism. This palace is the heritage home of Travancore kings and it was built during 17th and 18th century. Crafts work on wood, flooring and natural light arrangement and air ventilation are the main attractions of this palace and is a most visited place till now.

 

Red fort – Red fort was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1639 and it took 9 years for completion. Its south is known as Delhi gate and west is known as Lahore gate. It’s from Red Fort where Jawaharlal Nehru did rise the Indian flag when India got independence in 1947.

 

Ajantha – Ajantha caves of Maharashtra are the contributions of Buddhist culture. It’s the source of many curvings as well as paintings that draws attention from worldwide. Its first phase was constructed during second century BC and colours have been created from the soil of Deccan plateau. These natural colours still are surprising to man.

 

Mumbai Railway station – Victoria terminus, also known as Chatrapathi Sivaji terminus is the head quarters of Central zone of railways. This British construction was included in heritage sites in 2004. Victorian Gothic style of this railway is its main feature.

 

Churches of Goa – convents and churches of Goa built in 15th and 16th century is famous for its natural stones used. Many Portuguese churches are famous too.
