Gone are the horrible ancient days where people were accustomed to remain plunged in darkness throughout the night. Thanks to Edison  for his gift of electricity to us. Now we put the switch on and say ‘Let there be light’, like magic there is light all around despoiling darkness.

In modern times we cannot imagine spending a day even without electricity, but sometimes it happens. I have a very gruesome experience of spending a whole day without electricity. It was sweltering summer .I woke up  in the morning sweating all over. The fan was not moving over my head. There was no power. In spite of being a holiday, I could know further lay curled up in bed. I remembered that it was my birthday and we had arranged  for a party. But nothing to worry, I surely felt that by evening everything will be alright. I quickly got up from bed and found my mother busy in the kitchen preparing delicious dishes and cookies for my birthday party in the evening. Poor mother, she was sweating and panting due to the heat. She cannot even relax under a fan. I tried my best to sit down and to study but in vain. I was very thirsty. I open the fridge but found not a single bottle there. I became very angry. Then I became busy decorating for the party and arranging games we would play. I then took my bath with the running hot water from the tap. Gradually we all became restless when evening appeared and there was no sign of electricity. I began to worry very much. Suddenly the first storm of the season arose and there was no sign of power also. With the gust of wind blowing I knew at once that there was least chance of electricity now. The whole area was plunged in darkness. I began to experience some fear, some eerie feeling as flashes of lightening  flittered through the rooms. Some friends ultimately turned up but not all. In the darkness we only lit the candles, cut my cake, but, there were no games, the tasty food was not enjoyed and my friends return home with half-hearted enjoyment. Much food was wasted. For the whole night there was no power. We tossed in bed for the whole of the night.  Ultimately power was restored in the morning.

In this age of technological advancement, when gadgets mean so much to us, spending a whole day without electricity is a horrible experience. We had to face so much inconvenience that I will never forget this unpleasant day.

When I was a student in my school life I also have faced a day with no power. From that incident I started filling the value of electricity.
