1983 is the first movie in Malayalam to tell about the story of cricket game. The film was directed by a new director Abrid Shrine, who was actually a photographer. His first film as a director was not so bad, a film that remembers every one’s childhood. In this film he tells the story of group of youngster’s deep passion for cricket in a remote village called Brahmamangalam. The movie starts from the year 1983, when India won the first World Cup, till the present.

The Central character in the film Nivin Pauly as Rameshan, was the star batsman among his friends. But the brilliant player destined to remain a sensation at local matches only. He depicts his character very well in this movie. Nivin Pauly is an upcoming star of our Malayalam movie that had only a few films. His performance in his school life and as a father of ten year old child is very realistic. His childhood lover Nikki Galrani as Manjula loves him very much and hopes for Rameshan to find a good job. But Rameshan had only passion for cricket as he attends all village matches and he lost his lover also.

Another attraction in this film is of Rameshan’s faher as Joy Mathew. Like every parents he dreams to become Rameshan as a Mechanical Engineer but he fails in pre degree. He is against his son love for cricket and blaming all his friends. But at the end of the movie we can see a change in his character, who loves cricket and encourage his grandson Kannan. Anoop menon act as Vijay Menon as a Cricket Coach, who helps to become Kannan an efficient player. Another character Rameshan’s ignorant wife Susheela as Srinda AShab, plays her role very well. She knows nothing about cricket and even didn’t know about Sachin.

The film shows the change of society. In early Rameshan’s father was against cricket as he think sports was a waste of time and academic was the only way to success in life.  But when Ramesh become a father he realized his child talent and does everything for him to become a good player. Finally his child got selection under District Team and his dream come to a reality. Today’s Parents will go to any level if they realized their child talent, which is the change of our new society.
