Statue Junction - The Connecting Point Of Thiruvananthapuram

 

Statue is located between Eastfort and Palayam. It was originally known as Mavinmoodu. The name Statue is derived from famous statue of Diwan T. Madhava Rao. Statue is the connecting point to various parts of the city. Statue is the busiest point of the city mainly because of Kerala Secretariat, the seat of administration of State. In addition to Secretariat,   various other attractions like District Treasury, State Bank of Travancore, Statue Post Office, YMCA, Accounts General Office, Sreedhari Arya Vaidyasala etc. The place is famous for worship place for three communities, Palayam St Joseph Church, Palayam Juma Masjid and Palayam Ganapathi temple. The road is often blocked by the protesters during different protest marches.   

Secretariat:  

The Secretariat is a popular landmark located at Statue. It is the highest level of administration in Kerala. The Secretariat consists of various departments and it is said that home to all departments of the Government of Kerala. It has three blocks namely North, Central and South blocks. Visitors are allowed only after 3 pm with entry pass. The foundation of this building was constructed during the reign of Ayilyam Thirunal in 1865. The building was built in Roman Architectural style and was designed by Barton, a British engineer. The location is famous for political parties’ marches, strikes and rallies, all are only outside its walls.

Chandresekharan Nair Stadium:

Stadium is also known as Police Stadium, was constructed in the honour of first Inspector General of Police of Kerala N. Chandrasekharan Nair. Several game especially football matches are held here. A huge ground for practicing upcoming sports children of new generation.

YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Assosiation):

This building is behind Secretariat famous for conducting meetings, exhibitions, fairs and various social cultural activities.

Napier Museum:

The Napier museum is also called Government Art Museum, situated at Museum Junction near to Statue. It is also a Zoo, where children’s are happy while seeing animals in open area. Animals like lion, Hippo, Zebra, Giraffe, monkey and several birds. The use of plastic is banned in the museum and zoo was closed on every Mondays. Museum also contains Sri Chitra Art Gallery which contains paintings of Raja Ravi Varma and precious works of various Kings.
