Udaipur Travel Guide

A tour of Rajasthan cannot be completed without a tour of Udaipur- widely known a city of lakes. It is ideally a romantic city where some of the world’s most exotic landscapes can be found. The city is dotted with glistening lakes, enthralling architectural fort and palaces, and scenic backdrop which undulate throughout the city. Lingering behind the walls of the palaces and forts are legendary tales which inevitable gets revealed before us. Each fort and palaces has its own unique appeal that makes it stand out from all the others. Udaipur boasts of a number of sightseeing places, so engrossing some of them are that even words fall short when it comes to describing them. Once you acquaint yourself with the history and origin of the palaces and forts you will find yourself stepping back to the yesteryear and basking in a medieval city.

Supposed to have been founded by the Sisodia ruler Maharana Udai Sing of Mewar, the very reason for this foundation is steeped in a historical tale – an apparent clash between the Sisodias and the Mughals.  It is interesting to indulge oneself in the historical past of a particular city and Udaipur has a lot of historical narration to disclose.

Udaipur with its serene environs can best be described as a fairytale land. You will find it hard to believe that such a place actually exists in reality. The tourist places of attractions are an added appeal. There are a number of them most popular among them are the City Palace, The Jag Mandir Palace, Jag Niwas Palace or the Lake Palace, Bagore ki haveli, Lake Pichola, the Fateh Sagar Lake, the Jaisamand Lake, Gulab Bagh, the Solar Observatory, Jagdish temple, the Eklingji temple, Saas Bahu temple at Nagda, the Srinathji temple at Nathdwara, Shilpagram, Saheliton ki Bari etc.

A small peninsula on the picturesque Lake Pichola embraces the royal City Palace giving a pristine look to the whole place. The City Palace has within its premise 11 mahals, with beautifully engraved balconies and towers. The look of the City Palace is augmented by the sparkling waters of the lake. Another pictorial island palace on the Lake Pichola is the Jag Mandir erected by Maharaja Karan Sing in 1615 AD. The white marble structure of the Lake Palace set on the Pichola Lake is another tourist appeal. Another noteworthy place is the Saheliyon-Ki-Bari, a beautifully laid garden build for recreational purpose for the women of the royal household. Nestling in an island the Udaipur Solar Observatory has been ranked as one of the best solar observing site in Asia.

Various religious temples in and around Udaipur add to the beauty and resource of the city. Shopping centres like the Chetak circle, Baapu Bazaar, Palace road and Shastri circle draws a large number of tourists every year. A visit to Udaipur is a must if you are touring the state of Rajasthan.
